WELCOME, THE LONE BEADER and her exquisite beaded creations. When looking through this talented artist's shop, I was just amazed at the intricate design and details of her creations. One can only imagine the time she spent creating the beautiful GREAT BLUE HERON water bird shown above.
What led you to start creating your art/craft?
I have always had the urge to create. When I was a child, I learned how to cross stitch, and demonstrated very early on that I enjoyed large needlework projects. I really loved to see my image slowly progress. After trying many other arts & crafts, as well as music, I finally picked up beading. I love to keep my hands busy, and I was inspired to combine my love for embroidery with this fascinating medium.
How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with?
I gravitated towards seed beads right away. I love that they come in every colour of the rainbow, as well as a number of different sizes and shapes. It seemed to me they were like paint in the form of tiny glass pieces!
What aspect of creating your art/craft do you find the most enjoyable?
I enjoy stitching the beads to felt, but my favourite part is finishing a piece!
If you had to choose a fruit OR a vegetable, to describe your art/craft, what would you choose, and why?
Probably a strawberry. Strawberries just don't look right without seeds, the same way felt doesn't look right without beads!
If you had to choose one other medium in which to display your “creativity”, what would that be, and why?
Paper collage. I have created collages since I was a kid. I love mixing words with images - this creates a whole new meaning to the piece!
What message, if any, do you want to convey with your art/craft?
Each piece has its own messages, but overall, I would like my work to convey that anything is possible with beads.
What advice do you have for other artists/crafters?
Don't ever stop creating. After you finish one piece, just move on to the next. You will be surprised to see what you have learned!
