This will be a new venue for me, and am looking forward to doing a new show.  Since my first art show of the season was a total "bust", I'm thinking it can only get better!!  As usual, I will be doing a review of this show.

It appears there will be 70 exhibiting artists, great food, entertainment, and also several other events going on in Deforest on the 5th of June.

WAAC'S "WINTER ART FESTIVAL" - MADISON, WISCONSIN

The "Winter Art Festival" held at the beautiful Monona Terrace Convention Center in Madison, Wisconsin is coming up sooner than I expected!! This is one of my favorite shows, and will be my last art show of the 2008 season! Where did the summer and fall go! If you live in the area, you won't want to miss this wonderful show. It is one of the best art shows around, and has a wide array of wonderful art being shown by about 140 artists. I am always honored to be a part of this top quality show. There is a Young Collector's Corner, where kids age 12 and under may purchase artwork at kid-sized prices.....$3.00, $5.00, or $7.00.

STONEWOOD VILLAGE ART FAIR

Stonewood Village is a unique group of shops and restaurants with winding paths and wooded areas. If you live in the area, I'd love to have you visit me and see all my new "fantasy" creations! My booth is #10. Of course, I'm praying it doesn't rain that weekend, as I always get a big puddle in the front of my booth if it does.

Stonewood Village is located on Capitol Drive, just west of Calhoun Road in Brookfield, WI. Very is to find, as the show is visible from Capitol Drive.

FUN, FANTASTIC ART SHOW - FIREFLY ART SHOW - Wauwatosa - WISCONSIN

This weekend of August 2nd & 3rd, I was exhibiting in another one of my "favorite" art shows! The weather was absolutely gorgeous! No 90 degree temperatures, as is often the case when doing this show in Wisconsin! Only beautiful breezes and sunshine. I had my usual spot located under a huge tree, which provided shade, and we were told by many of the people visiting my booth that it was the best spot in the show! Sales proved to be great! Considering how the economy has been affecting most art shows for all artists, I was pleasantly surprised at the sales I had. It pays to develop a "following", as I'd say 90% of my sales were repeat customers from previous years. The booth fee for this delightful show is $125.00 for both days, and only a $5.00 jury fee.

I've been doing this show for about 7 years now, and it is sponsored by the Wauwatosa Historical Society, and held on the beautiful grounds of an historic home surrounded by beautiful Victorian gardens. The Firefly Art Fair is the major fundraiser for the Wisconsin Historical Society , which raises funds to preserve the historic Kneeland Walker home.

This show is one of my very favorites, and provides artists with help loading and unloading by having a troop of the Boy Scouts available for any artists who need help. They also provide a complimentary continental breakfast on Sunday morning, and an artist reception after the show on Saturday. Lots of good food is on sale throughout the two day event. The homemade pie alamode was my sister's and my favorite! Yummy!!

FOOD TENTS IN THE BACKGROUND

This show has the most beautiful setting in the Victorian styles gardens that surround the historic home. Below are several photos I took before the show actually opened on Saturday. LOVE THE FLOWERS!

Visitors to the "fair" can buy their food, and then go sit at one of the many tables provided for their enjoyment, while eating their food, and be surrounded by flowers!

The Firefly Art Fair has a wide variety of different mediums....paintings, photography, mixed media, jewelry, wood, and more! I snapped a few photos before the show started, of some of the various artwork, as shown below:

Very unique necklaces made from nuts by artist Gorden Decker

Here is another piece by wood artist, Gordon Decker. He said this piece was created from a "pod" from Africa. Great, unique candle holder.

I'm always a little sad when this show is over, as it means I have to wait another whole year to be back there again! It is always such fun to meet with artist friends, old customers, and to meet new ones. All in all a great weekend!

ART FAIR OFF THE SQUARE - MADISON, WISCONSIN

This past weekend brought "Art Fair Off the Square" to Madison, WI. After worrying about the weather for most of the week in anticipation of what the weather would be like for the upcoming weekend show, we were blessed with beautiful weather on both Saturday and Sunday! There was a beautiful breeze, and the temperatures were perfect! Previous years, the temperatures were always close to 90 degrees! What more could you ask for, other than a "lot more sales"!

Is the economy affecting the overall sales at art shows...? I would say, from talking to many artists, not only at this show, but at other shows I've done so far this season...the answer is a definite YES IT IS!

There were crowds of people at the show this past weekend, but they tended to be more "lookers" then "buyers". Booths could be crowded with people, but after watching the stream of people for two days, it wasn't hard to notice that there weren't that many with purchases in their hands.

My sales at this show, were down approximately 45% from last year. However, all things considered, by closing time on Sunday, I was still pleased with what I had sold, plus all the wonderful people I got to meet.

"Art Fair Off the Square" has a farmer's market on Saturday running from the opening of the show until about 12 noon on Saturday. I took this photo before the show was really open. Once the show was open, you could hardly get through the crowds on the sidewalk..looking and buy all the baked goodies, flowers, and fresh vegetables!

Below is a photo of just one of the booths selling gorgeous bouquets of flowers for only $3.00 - $4.00 a bunch.

The smiling gentleman on the right is Steve Siehr, one of the many people who make Art Fair Off the Square the great show that it is. Steve is the fellow who oversees the "jurying and rules" for the show. You can see Steve strolling around chatting with artists, and making sure that we are all "selling" what our slides said we do, and following the rules of the show! Steve's a great guy and has the perfect personality for this job. Always a smile on his face.

The lady on the right was my next door neighbor, Ursula L. Kauppinen, who has been doing this show for many, many years. She is a wonderful watercolor artist. Darn...I should have got a few photos of her work! Hopefully, next year!

This was one of my neighbors on my other side. Cynthia Mosedale and William Kaufmann create some very beautiful, colorful pottery. They are from Hudson, WI., and the their shop name is LINDEN HILLS POTTERY. Visit their web page for more information on their show schedules, etc. These exhibitors seemed to be doing quite well with sales, both days of the show, and if you saw their work in person, you could see why. Below are several more photos of their work.

In summing up this year's 2008 Art Fair Off the Square show, I'd have to say it still continues to be one of my favorite shows to do! The other show sponsored by the Wisconsin Alliance of Artists and Craftspeople is their WINTER ART FESTIVAL on November 15 & 16th held in the beautiful Monona Terrace C0nvention Center building on Lake Monona, Madison, WI. I'm really looking forward to doing the show again this year.
