Now....a bit about the mermaid!

She is the smallest of my "wall style" mermaids, measuring 6.5" tall. There is a loop on the back so that you can either hang her on the wall or have her twirl and dance from a bit of ribbon or clear fishing line!

She is my own original design, and has been indvidually created by me. Her tail was designed from a beautiful batik fabric, in shades of coral, with metallic gold lines running through the pattern

The tail has been stuffed with acrylic fiberfill, the fins top-stitched into a design and have inner wire armatures, so that you may bend them up or down a bit.

Her upper body/face is 100% silk. I hand-drew, needle-sculpted and hand-painted her face. Her eyes and lips have a coat of crystal clear lacquer which gives her a very "life-like" look and shine. Her arms also have inner wire armatures, so that they also may be bent up and down a bit.

Her colorful hairdo is a soft wispy yarn which glistens. Its color is various shades of coral mixed with "poofs" of olive green.

Her accents are Swarovski crystals, tiny seed beads, and real sea shells.

THANKS FOR VISITING

GOOD LUCK!

Now...a bit about the fairy! She is one of my wall style fairies, measuring approximately 10.5" tall from the tip of her toes to the top of her fluffy hairdo. She is my own original design, and created individually be me.

Her face is 100% silk, which I individually hand-drew, needle-sculpted and hand-painted.

Her body wing fabric is a fun, colorful batik fabric, with all different colored "hearts" in the design. She is posed to stay in her current position, however, since her arms have inner wire armatures, you can move those up or down a bit.

Her colorful hairdo was designed from a wispy, long "eyelash" style yarn, and is accented with a silk flower and Swarovski crystals. Her other accents are Swarovski crystals accenting the lavender heart on her chest, a waist accent of hearts and Swarovski crystals, crystals on the tip of each toe, and a silk flower and crystals in the center back of her wings.

She is one fun fairy, who will be making her home with the lucky winner of this "October Giveaway"!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!

ONE OF MY FAIRIES IN HER NEW HOME

The above photos were sent to me by a lovely customer who had purchased this "black and gold" fairy at an art show I was in last weekend. She wanted me to see her in her new home, and wrote me this lovely note below. She also told me she had named her Hadita (little fairie) in Spanish.

Donna, I just wanted to say "thank you" to you for making it possible for me to own one of your fabulous fairies. I am honored to own her, and although I had been going to place her in my whimsical room, not enough people would meet her there, so I have placed her in the powder room on the first floor! There, she will bring a smile to a lot of faces! I should not have spent the money on something that purely brings pleasure, but I am glad I did. I know it will pay for itself in delight! You and your sister were so nice to me. Thanks again, and I wish you much continued success!

That is what I love the most about doing "art shows"....the one-on-one contacts, and the opportunity to meet and talk with so many lovely people. I may be a bit crazy....but, I love to know my creations are going to good homes! I just wanted to share this lovely little moment!

LEAF FAIRIES....Whimsical, Magical Fiber Sculpted Fantasy Accents!

This is one of my "leaf fairies", which I just finished creating a couple of days ago. They are one of my favorite items to create, as I love painting onto silk fabric using Jaquard's Dye-na-Flow fabric paint. It is such fun watching the colors flow onto the fabric, and being able to blend all the different colors!

I created the leaf template from an Aspen leaf, which I pressed, then traced onto paper, and enlarged it on the copy machine to this size. I enlarged it from its orginal size to 144%. The "leaf fairy" above is now available in my DZFANTSY SHOP, click on the link below to find out more about her:

I use silk tussah fabric, as I love how it really absorbs the fabric paint so well. I use a medium size brush to paint the leaf. Tussah silk is a silk fabric derived from wild moths whose main diet is oak leaves. Its natural colors can range from a pale cream to a darker tan, depending in the amount of tannin that is in the oak leaves. I have found that it is becoming more difficult to find suppliers for this particular silk, and the prices keep going up. It is also the silk I use for all of my creations' faces and the mermaids upper bodies.

After I sew the leaf, I lightly stuff it with acrylic fiberfil, top-stitch it into a design, and then the fun starts....I get to hand-paint it!! You have to be rather quick when applying the liquid paint, and blend the color, or it will leave lines in the fabric. I also paint a small section of the silk fabric to use in creating the face. These are "leaf fairies", and as they are the "spirit and essence" of the leaves, their faces have to blend in with whatever color I decide to make the leaf.

The fairy's face then gets sewn, stuffed, hand-drawn, needle-sculpted and hand-painted. After that is completed, she gets her hairdo and accents. The "fairy leaf" hairdo above is a fun, sparkly, Italian yarn with wispy eyelash and paper ribbon as its texture. For her hair accent, I added a Swarovski crystal flower bead, and several 4mm Swarovski crystals. I also added another crystal flower bead, and 4mm crystals at the base of the leaf.

Below is another green "leaf fairy", which I recently designed. Her leaf is also the aspen leaf, but with a different yarn for the hairdo, and a slightly different stitch design on the leaf.

In a future post, I will be showing how I create a huge "maple leaf" fairy out of a maple leaf that my husband and I found while walking in Lake Geneva, WI. The leaf measured 12" x 12"!! I picked it up...rushed to the car with it and pressed it under my floor carpet so I could design a silk "fairy leaf" from it. I have only made two of these huge maple leaf fairies so far, as they take a very long time to top-stitch the leaf itself. Do stop back to see this....it is quite an amazing size!

MEET MY "FAIRY PRINCESS"

FAIRY PRINCESS
I can't believe I managed to finish her, as I've been very busy getting together a huge list of more Etsy artists, who will be featured out here in the coming weeks. I just finished her today, and thought I'd bring her out here, so you can see what else I've been up to.
She was such fun to create, and is full of sparkle! She is wearing a lot of Swarovski crystals, and even has one in her "belly button". She has butterfly shaped wings, and measures 4" tall from her "seat" to the top of her fluffy hairdo! I hope she finds a good home before I get too attached to her!

If you'd like to learn more about her , you can visit her in my DZFANTASY shop on Etsy by clicking on any one of her photos above.

This is the smallest of my "wall" style mermaids. She measures 6.5" tall, and her tail fin span is 5". Her upper body and face are 100% silk fabric. Her tail fabric is a quality batik fabric in shades of aqua. She has a lovely, long flowing hairdo, which I designed out of two different Italian yarns. One is a soft, wispy "eyelash" style yarn, and the other is a sparkling/glistening yarn, which makes her look as if she just come out of the sea!
Her accents are real sea shells in her hair, necklace and waist accent, along with Swarovski crystals, and tiny glass seed beads. She has a loop on the back of her neck for either hanging on the wall, or to dance from a bit of clear fishing line or ribbon. She may also be displayed standing on a shelf, if she leans against something or is tacked to the wall. She is NOT freestanding. You may also move her arms up or down a bit, as well as her tail fins.
