Enchanting, rainbow colored fiber sculpted mermaid

MERMAID

(Click on the word MERMAID above to see her in my Etsy shop)

13.5" Fiber Sculpted Wall Style Mermaid

by DZFANTASY

I just finished creating this colorful mermaid, who is the largest of my wall style mermaids, measuring 13.5" from the bottom of her tail fins to the tip of her colorful hairdo.  She is designed to hang on the wall, dance from a bit of ribbon or clear fishing line or could be displayed on a shelf with the wall to lean against.

Her face and uppper body is 100% silk fabric.  I individually hand draw, needles sculpt and hand paint her face.  Her eyes and lips have a coat of crystal clear lacquer, which gives her a very life-like, 3-dimensional look and shine.

She has a lot of Swarovski crystal accents, in her hair, necklace, belly button and at her waist.  She is of my own original design and creation.  A lovely addition to any collection.  She is currently listed in my DZFANTASY shop on Etsy.  I also have smaller size mermaids available in my shop, and am always happy to create a special order figure, in your choice of colors!  Please feel free to contact me for fabric and yarn samples.

The Magic of Laurel Burch Fabric

Whimsical fiber sculpted "Cat Fairy" created
using one of Laurel Burch's wonderful cat designed fabric
(she is currently available in my DZFANTASY shop on Etsy.

I have been designing and creating my original designed fiber sculpted fantasy sculptures for over 20 years now, and one of my all time favorite fabrics were those designed by the talented fabric artist, Laurel Burch.

Her colorful, whimsical designs inspired so many of my fairies and mermaids over the years.  I was so sad when this great artist passed away.  Recently I was quite amazed to note how her various designed fabrics have skyrocketed in price!  Her use of color and whimsey appeal to so many!!  Designs that years ago used to be anywhere from $10.00 - $12.00 a yard are now going for anywhere from $25.00 - $69.00 a yard.  I am so happy I had the opportunity years ago to purchase so many of her wonderful designs.

Below are several more photos of some of the creations I designed using Laurel Burch fabrics.

These are just a very small sample of some of my creations using Laurel Burch fabric.  I have created so many over the years, but don't have the photos any more.  I do hope to be able to create several more in the future.  Those photos above with links, can be seen in my DZFANTASY shop on Etsy.

FEATURED ETSY SHOP - The Charming Place

Flying Fantasy Fish Print 8.5 x 11

by Shelley Szczucki of The Charming Place

CHARMING, WHIMSICAL, ENCHANTING, COLORFUL....These are just a few of the adjectives I'd use to describe the delightful art of Shelley Szczucki!  I'm very happy to welcome Shelley and her Etsy shop, THE CHARMING PLACE, as a featured artist here on DZFANTASY.  What an appropriate name for Shelley's shop!  When you pay a visit, you will find whimsical scrabble tile pendants created with Shelley's own original art, and also art prints such as the one pictured above!  They will be sure to make you smile!

Let's learn a little bit more about this talented artist by reading her interview below.

What led you to start creating your art/craft?

I started to create crafts when I was very young, sometime in the 70's. My mother was somewhat of a "Martha Stewart" and we did mostly everything together....many hours reading magazines and picking out just the right craft to do. I was also a very young artist, picking up a crayon and writing and doodling on just about anything....much to my parents dismay. After many years of day to day life and not much to do with the selling of my art and crafts, I started to search on the computer for more ideas. I came across Ebay, and that was the start, I found so many things people were doing, and I thought to myself......I can do that. So I went about selling my art there and then that led to Etsy!

by Shelley Szczucki

How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with?

I love many mediums, but I try to stay somewhat consistent with Etsy. I display my acrylic and watercolor art in my shop. Also my art on jewelry, just to liven things up a bit.

What aspect of creating your art/craft do you find the most enjoyable?

I love the freedom it gives me. Everything in life is almost written for you......school, job, taxes. This is my little world of creativity that nobody can tell me what to paint, or how to paint or anything!

If you had to choose a fruit OR a vegetable, to describe your art/craft, what would you choose, and why?

A fruit sundae.......a jumble of lovely colours!

by Shelley Szczucki

If you had to choose one other medium in which to display your "creativity" what would that be, and why?

Probably my acrylic paintings. I love the vibrancy the medium gives me in terms of colours.

What message, if any, do you want to convey with your art/craft?

Happy, Creative, Smile!

Fantasy Fairy Print 8.5 x 11
by Shelley Szczucki

This painting was done by randomly painting with watercolor paint, then sketching over to form a cute posed fairy. She just appeared out of the paint.

What advice do you have for other artists/crafters?

Never give up! There will always be people out there that are better than you and there will also be people that are not. Strive to do your very best, and you can't go wrong.

Shelley, thanks for taking the time to share your delightful, artistic creations with everyone, and for your thoughts!  I'd say your message of "Happy, Creative, Smile!" is definitely the message being shown in your work!

Who doesn't like mermaids....!

I don't think I'ver ever come across anyone who isn't enchanted by the idea of mermaids!  I know I love them, and often imagined how wonderful it would be to be one!

I have always had a wonderful imagination, and could see myself being any number of mythical, fantasy creatures...who's to say that they aren't real.

This tiny, little minty green mermaid is my newest addition to my DZFANTASY shop.  To see and learn more about her, just click on the link below:

FEATURED ETSY SHOP - THE 35TH OF MAY

Let them eat cake ring

"If they have no bread, then let them eat cake!"

This Cake ring is fit for a Queen! Vanilla scented polymer clay cake ring handcrafted with much detail. The ring is adjustable. Ring measures 3 x 2.5 cm

Now doesn't that little cake just look good enough to eat!

I'm delighted to have Moi from Stockholm, here on DZFANTASY with her fun, whimsical and very creative ideas!  Treat yourself to a visit of Moi's Etsy shop, THE 35TH OF MAY.  It makes you smile just to see her creations....and it is definitely something we can never do too much of. Her scrumptous looking polymer clay creations, make you want to pop them into your mouth!

First let's hear from Moi as she expresses her thoughts and shares a bit of herself.

What led you to start creating your art/craft?

I guess my mother. Thanks to her I have been doing crafts for as long as I can think. I remember how we made handcrafted Christmas gifts every year. I really miss that tradition. I’m actually going to do it with her again this year, and I’m really looking forward to it! I guess not too much changed since those times, instead I just craft all year around.

How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with?

I started experimenting with polymer clay on April this year and I really seemed to have a knack for it, but I don’t really like to limit myself with just one medium; I like to experiment with anything coming my way.

What aspect of creating your art/craft do you find the most enjoyable?

I can’t pinpoint anything specific, but I can tell you this.....I did not do anything arts and crafts related for two years, and I did not realize how important it was for me, until I started doing it again. Now I feel so good, I don’t even know where to put all that creativity I have had subdued for all that time.

If you had to choose a fruit OR a vegetable, to describe your art/craft, what would you choose, and why?

Cherry or Strawberry. I have no idea why. Maybe you can tell me?  (Moi, I think your work is very refreshing and makes one feel good, just like when eating a juicy cherry or strawberry!)

If you had to choose one other medium in which to display your “creativity”, what would that be, and why?

It would definitely be cooking! Many seem to forget that cooking is truly an art.

What message, if any, do you want to convey with your art/craft?

I want people to be able to put a little color and magic into their everyday, familiar, general, habitual, normal, quotidian, routine, run-of-the-mill, standard, traditional, typical, usual, humdrum lives.

What advice do you have for other artists/crafters?

Never stop learning. What advice do you have for me? (Keep on having fun with your creativity and do what you enjoy and that will reflect in your creations!)

Moi, it was a real pleasure to have you here on my blog as a "featured" Etsy shop, and such fun to see your whimsical creations!

Rainbow Sea Sprite and her colorful fish mobile

Whimsical, RAINBOW SEA SPRITE ON HER MAGICAL FISH

MOBILE

by

Donna - DZFANTASY

I just finished this newest sculpture....a tiny sea sprite riding her rainbow colored fish. This sculpture took me about 15 hours to complete. The entire sculpture has 112 Swarovski crystals handsewn into the fish itself and also for the sprite's accents. I use a 4# clear fishing line, which can't be seen. It is like creating two separate sculptures....first the fish and then the sprite. The sprite is then handsewn onto the fish.

The entire sculpture measures approximately 9" long, and 6.5" high. Both the fish and the sprite are firmly stuffed with acrylic fiberfill, and the sprite and the fish's tail fins have inner wire armatures.

This sculpture is designed to be hung as a "mobile". There is a loop on the back of the sprite from which to hang her.

I've designed 4 different styles of fish and this is the smallest of them.

The sprite herself is 100% silk fabric which I handdyed/painted using silk fabric paints.

I just listed her in my DZFANTASY shop on Etsy, and if you'd like to learn more about her, you can click on either of her above photos.

ZEBRA FAIRY ....My latest addition to my JUNGLE COLLECTION

ZEBRA FAIRY

Fiber Fantasy Sculpture

by

DZFANTASY

I just finished this ZEBRA fairy as another addition to my JUNGLE COLLECTION. I had a great time designing and creating her. She is the third figure I have created with the jungle theme. My first was a very colorful wall accent, the second was a "leopard fairy", which has already been sold. I am now working on another leopard fairy, and next comes a giraffe fairy.

If you'd like to see more of the ZEBRA fairy, click on either of her photos. She is now listed in my DZFANTASY shop on Etsy.

I have found it hard to find really good animal print fabrics, and have ordered them from Hancock's of Paducah. Hancock's has a huge selection of quality fabrics, and they send you a full color catalog. While I normally like to "touch and feel" the fabrics I use, I've found their fabrics to be of top quality.

If you can't find what you are looking for in fabric shops in your area, you may want to check them out. Here is the link:

They carry Modern Fashion, Romantic Florals, Exotic Batiks, Bali Batiks, Retro Chic, Novelty Fabrics, and more!

ABOUT THE PIN:

Size: Approx. 2.75" x 2.75"

I designed her wings out of a silky textured bronze colored fabric, which has crystal chips as part of the fabric. Very magical!! Her glistening bronze hairdo was designed from an Italian yarn called AURA. It really sparkles and shines when the sun hits it! More sparkle is added from her antennae, which were created from 4mm Swarovski crystals on wire. They are sewn directly into her head, and you can bend them up or down a bit.

This butterfly fairy pin is sure to bring a smile to your face! Her wings are lightly stuffed with acrylic fiberfill, which I top-stitch into a design, and have inner wire armatures. The back of the pin is a half circle of texturized brass. Her little face is 100% silk, which I individually hand-draw, needle-sculpt and hand-paint. The eyes and lips have a crystal, clear coat of lacquer, which gives her face a very "life-like" look and shine. The face is sprayed with a matte finish sealer, so it will not run or smear.

GOOD LUCK
AND

THANKS FOR STOPPING BY!

HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A MERFAERIE??

MERFAERIE

This "Merfaerie" is my latest design. I've been wanting to create a fantasy creature who not only is a mermaid, who can flit through the magical ocean kingdoms and seas, but also one that can soar above the earth and visit other magical kingdoms as well. She is the first of my colorful Merfaeries!

I hope to be creating more of these "Merfaeries" in different sizes, as time allows. She is the largest ,and measures approximately 15" tall, with a fin span of 10" wide. Other sizes I am considering are 6.5", and 10".

Her upper body and face are 100% silk tussah fabric. Tussah silk comes from wild moths, whose main diet is oak leaves. I individually hand-drew, needle-sculpted, and hand-painted her face.

If you'd like to learn more about her, she is now out in my DZFANTASY SHOP ON Etsy...you can click on the link below to visit her:

MERFAERIE

I am also thinking of creating a "special" Merfaerie for one of my monthly "giveaways", so it would be fun to hear from all of you....to see what you think of this new design.
