I have been designing and creating my original designed, one-of-a-kind fiber sculpted fantasy sculptures for over 20 years (angels, fairies, mermaids, leaf spirits and more).  Several years ago, I would create a personal, original designed ANGEL for anyone who shared their  "ANGEL EXPERIENCE/S" with everyone here on my blog.  Several of the stories are still out here on my blog. Since this got to be a bit time consuming and costly, I will now create ONE angel for the person who's story is submitted and voted on by you the readers of the stories.

I believe ANGELS come in many ways to help us...they can be "earth" angels in the form of a friend, family member, one's pet, or a complete stranger.  They can also be "unseen" angels helping us in times of need, you just have to be open and aware. 

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SHARE A STORY OF ANY EXPERIENCE YOU FEEL WHICH SHOWS THERE ARE ANGELS OF ALL TYPES HERE TO HELP US!

The time to submit your story will run from DECEMBER 28 - JANUARY 28, 2017. I will enter the stories out here on my blog, and on JANAURY 29TH,  I  will add a place where people can vote for the story that touched them the most. THE WINNER WILL BE ABLE TO CHOOSE THEIR CHOICE OF COLORS FOR THEIR 6" OR 8" STANDING ANGEL, AND I WILL SHIP IT TO THEM.

For the past month or so, I have been volunteering at the Bichon and Little Buddies Rescue, a privately owned dog rescue center in Mukwonago, WI, where I live.  It has given me a better insight as to just how much help these animals need in caring for them, taking care of their medical needs and finding them good "forever" homes.  The people who run this private rescue are very dedicated and depend on volunteers and donations to keep everything going.

I have decided to donate 20% of any sales of my fiber fantasy art purchased either through my DZFANTASY shop on Etsy, or sales received at my art shows.

The usual adoption fee through Bichon and Little Buddies Rescue is $315.00, which is a small price to pay for a "forever" friend.  Included in this fee is your new companion who, before going home, will be spayed/neutered, vet checked, updated on vaccines, heartworm tested, microchipped, and dewormed.  Any other medical treatment will be taken care of as well.  You will also receive a 7-8 week age appropriate obedience training course at For Pet's Sake Dog Training at no additional charge.

What led you to start creating your art/craft?

Since I was a little child I always had a big attraction towards crafts.

 I was drawing  on every possible thing, but never studied art. When I grew up, I started traveling all over the globe and was exposed to so many amazing things. In India and Nepal I sat with silversmiths, in Japan I studied Sumi-e ( an ancient japanese drawing technique), I used to do macrame jeweley, did some weaving and actually touched almost any crafting material that came through me. All the time I was drawing and painting as presents for friends until friends of friends wanted to buy my stuff, so I started selling them.


So I can say that maybe being born led me to start creating...

How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with?

I tried almost everything but realized that I enjoy the most to sit in front of a blank paper and see it getting colored.

What aspect of creating your art/craft do you find the most enjoyable?

My art is not just the visual side of it, it also have a spiritual meaning. I get the meaning throughout drawing and that makes me study so much. Almost every print comes with a little card that has the story of the painting and what does it mean. I enjoy to learn and to share this knowledge with my customers.

If you had to choose a fruit OR a vegetable to describe your art/craft, what would you choose and why?

Mango, definitely! Sweet with sour touch, juicy, exotic and makes you happy, satisfied and yet longing for more of it once you tasted it.

If you had to choose one other medium in which to display your "creativity", what would that be, and why?

I use my creativity in more mediums...I do mirror mosaic mandalas, wall painting, decorations for festivals and events, teaching mandala courses, playing the guitar, singing and more...Actually, the question for me has to be: if you had more hours in a day, what more would you do?

What led you to start creating your art/craft?

I started to create crafts when I was very young, sometime in the 70's. My mother was somewhat of a "Martha Stewart" and we did mostly everything together....many hours reading magazines and picking out just the right craft to do. I was also a very young artist, picking up a crayon and writing and doodling on just about anything....much to my parents dismay. After many years of day to day life and not much to do with the selling of my art and crafts, I started to search on the computer for more ideas. I came across Ebay, and that was the start, I found so many things people were doing, and I thought to myself......I can do that. So I went about selling my art there and then that led to Etsy!

How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with?

I love many mediums, but I try to stay somewhat consistent with Etsy. I display my acrylic and watercolor art in my shop. Also my art on jewelry, just to liven things up a bit.

What aspect of creating your art/craft do you find the most enjoyable?

I love the freedom it gives me. Everything in life is almost written for you......school, job, taxes. This is my little world of creativity that nobody can tell me what to paint, or how to paint or anything!

If you had to choose a fruit OR a vegetable, to describe your art/craft, what would you choose, and why?

A fruit sundae.......a jumble of lovely colours!

What advice do you have for other artists/crafters?

Never give up! There will always be people out there that are better than you and there will also be people that are not. Strive to do your very best, and you can't go wrong.

What led you to start creating your art/craft?


I started drawing since I was a kid, and since I never really grew up, I kept on drawing but decided to branch out beyond stick figures.

How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with?

I first started with pen and ink, then watercolor and eventually explored acrylic, oil painting and mixed media. When I was introduced to digital painting, I was skeptical but tried it anyway. It wasn't necessarily easier, but it sure is cheaper and faster, and the convenience of it made me paint primarily in digital media. Now and then, I would get my hands dirty again with watercolors and ink, but it turns out that my portfolio is largely digital now.

What aspect of creating your art/craft do you find the most enjoyable?

The actual painting stage, when the sketch is done and I get to the coloring, that's my favorite part. Painting is a form of relaxation for me. I enjoy choosing the colors, planning the brushstrokes and blending everything together. I'll put on some music or a movie, a mug of tea by my side and my feet in cozy socks and just paint away. I can get really into it and begrudge the hours I need for sleep and food because it takes me away from the painting.

If you had to choose a fruit OR a vegetable, to describe your art/craft, what would you choose, and why?

An apple. It's simple and subtle, but is powerful. The colors can be bright and cheerful or dark and sultry. The taste is crisp and light but you can really sink your teeth into it. But most of all, it looks unassuming but a further look beneath the humble exterior lies a treasure trove of mystery, folklore, mythical beliefs and inspiration. It was the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge, the golden apple used in the race, the inspiration for gravity, the poisoned apple that tempted the girl, etc. That and I bake a mean apple pie.

Description: "This is my dream. I weave my thoughts onto silk, and as I sleep, my dreams flow into the world. Was it real or just my imagination? The butterflies and lotus flowers bear my yearning."


If you had to choose one other medium in which to display your “creativity”, what would that be, and why?

Besides my visual illustration, I've forayed into the other creative realms of music, jewelry making, photography, graphic design, toy design and fashion. I don't think I could choose just one, seeing how I feel like I've my hands in everything already.

What message, if any, do you want to convey with your art/craft?

It's my mission to capture beauty, first and foremost. I paint women to portray beauty because we can all identify with a gorgeous female face, but I also try to have beauty in color, shape and design as well. Underneath the surface beauty, however, I always try to weave in a story or mystery, or a sense that something is not right. Perhaps it could be the look in the eye that doesn't seem focused on the viewer, or a bride that turns out to be a gigantic sea monster or a beautiful woman who seems to be eating strange things. No matter what, I just love it when a viewer does a double take and realize that things aren't what they seem in my paintings.

What advice do you have for other artists/crafters?

I would stress on originality in your art. As Oscar Wilde said, everyone else is taken so just be yourself.

What led you to start creating your art/craft?

I’ve been drawing since I could clutch a crayon in my hand (my left hand, incidently). Painting followed shortly after, but what really kept me going as a kid was my massive pencil case full of felt pens. I always knew I would go to art school and do the gallery/exhibiting thing. The thing that’s taken me by surprise is my relatively recent love of all things crafty! My sister (www.twolimeleaves.wordpress.com) is a genius quilter and crafter and it was her that really got me into it. Before that I guess you could say I was a bit of a purest snob! No longer!

How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with?

Oil paint is glorious! Nothing compares, so that’s an easy decision. On the crafting side of things I love the feel and application of felt. Its extremely versatile and pleasantly tactile

What aspect of creating your art/craft do you find the most enjoyable?

It can be enormously satisfying to create something out of raw materials. A blank canvas to a mesmerising face, or a square of red felt to a pile of luscious flowers.

If you had to choose a fruit OR a vegetable, to describe your art/craft, what would you choose, and why?

An apple- Simple, divine, and balanced.

If you had to choose one other medium in which to display your “creativity”, what would that be, and why?

I would love to add sculpting to my repertoire. I used to make all sorts of creatures from DAS when I was a kid, but its been a while since Ive had my hands in clay.

What message, if any, do you want to convey with your art/craft?

That life is beautiful and worth celebrating.

What advice do you have for other artists/crafters?

Keep doing the best you can do. Create with your heart, not your mind. Listen to the critics but remember only the good comments! Someone once said that critics are to artists what a bicycle is to a fish. I like that!

What led you to start creating your art/craft?

Since I can remember, I have always been creative and drawn to art and aestetichs. Art was always my favorite subject in high school, and when I graduated it seemed natural to go to college for the Visual Arts. Like many, my road twisted and shook. Things didn't work out the way I had planned. I kept sketching and doing black and white work, but in 2006 something in me exploaded outward and I began to work with pastels. I am self-taught, and continue to seek out new knowledge.

How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with?

I feel like it just happened. Pastels are moody, intense, difficult at times, and perfect for the emotions I solidify through movement, symbolism and abstraction in my work. I already had the pastels I just hadn't used them yet, and when I did, I disappeared and the artwork showed up. I'm sure all you artisans know the feeling. We are just vessels for what we create. I chose photography as well because it brings me joy and a peaceful feeling. I love to catch those fleeting moments and the precision.

What aspect of creating your art/craft do you find the most enjoyable?

The escape. How time melts away and you are free.

If you had to choose a fruit OR a vegetable, to describe your art/craft, what would you choose, and why?

I would decribe my art as an Acai Berry, because it works as an antioxidant for me. Its very therapuetic and cleansing.

If you had to choose one other medium in which to display your “creativity”, what would that be, and why?

One other method? I do so many things... I write music, poems, paint, take pictures, I couldn't just pick one. For the sake of the question I guess I will go with music, because even when I was three, I was going around saying it was my dream. Music has also saved me and helped me through my injury I am currently recovering from. Oddly enough my injury helped me re-realize this lost dream, and my fiance and I are now co-writing music for our band! I still have a page from my pre-k book where I told my mom to write in that I was going to be a singer.

What message, if any, do you want to convey with your art/craft?

I want to awaken something that would have otherwise lain dorment in the on-looker. It's important that the each person have their own reationship with each work I create. At the same time I hope to create works that are harmonious with truth, love and justice.

What advice do you have for other artists/crafters?

Just put one foot in front of the other no matter what. Everything happens for a reason.

What led you to start creating your art/craft?


I've always been in love with the process of creating in the viusal art's field. I was taking an art class in ' Contrasts' while another class teaching silk art was going on. I stopped by the class and fell in love with the process of silk art.


How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with?


I work with many mediums, oils, watercolor, acrylics, and silk dyes. But working with French dyes on silk is a creative challenge.


What aspect of creating your art/craft do you find the most enjoyable?


The outcome!


If you had to choose a fruit OR a vegetable, to describe your art/craft, what would you choose, and why?


I guess I can't relate to a fruit, or veggie to describe my art. Perhaps an other worldly eatable?


If you had to choose one other medium in which to display your “creativity”, what would that be, and why?


It would be in an oil painting, , maybe a watercolor, and acrylic.


What message, if any, do you want to convey with your art/craft?


That there is beauty all around us , if we take the time to just stop and look,to really see. And, that there is so much beauty in the very smallest of things. My silk painting of " Forest Flower and Friend" speaks to that theme.

Oh, I don't have any advice for other artists and crafters; they are already doing a soul dance. But for those who are the ' I always wanted to' draw, paint, create a sculpture; I say, then if you've always wanted to, then get moving, do it! You'll be happily surprised to find that it was always inside of you waiting to be freed.

Eve of Saint Agnes Mosaic Mirror

On the Eve of St. Agnes, young girls would look into the village well hoping to see their future husbands.With its rich colors of ruby and garnet, this mirror gleams with its own romantic spirit. The iridescent pink petals of a flower bloom in the bottom left corner, and a strand of deep red faceted beads runs down the right. This piece was designed to be slightly asymmetrical; the angle of the mirror reflects the slant of the left side of the wood base.The mirror measures 14 7/8 H x 11 to 11 3/8 inches W. The mirror is wired with heavy picture framing wire and ready to hang.

What led you to start creating your art/craft?

I have always created something: Paintings, quilts, murals, mosiacs, miniature environments of dirt, leaves, toys and twigs carefully placed in my little red wagon. I started making jewelry about six years ago after receiving a pretty little beaded bracelet for Christmas and thinking: I can do that!

How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with?

I didn't! My first shop on Etsy http://www.13moonsart.etsy.com/ features jewelry, fused glass suncatchers and mosaic mirrors, and I just started a new one http://www.anitabarnard.etsy.com/ for Fine art: paintings, collage and art mosaics. Right now I have a painting to finish out on the deck and an unfinished mosaic and all it's little pieces of rocks and tiles spread out on my kitchen table.

What aspect of creating your art/craft do you find the most enjoyable?

I love envisioning and planning and sometimes actually dreaming about designs and images of things to make, and then seeing them begin to come together. I also have a secret fetish for graph paper...but often pieces veer off from the plan and take off in their own directions during the actual creation process.

If you had to choose a fruit OR a vegetable, to describe your art/craft, what would you choose, and why?

A pomegranate: It's very red and lush. There are all those seeds, like the many little pieces of separate materials that make up a collage or a mosaic or a beaded necklace. It has that tough skin and isn't always immediately accessible, but it's worth it when that tart-sweet burst of juice hits your tongue.

If you had to choose one other medium in which to display your "Creativity", what would that be, and why?

I quilted a lot a number of years ago, but just standard quilts, baby quilts. I see so many beautiful, intricate and intriguing art quilts, and they tempt me to get out my fabric stashes and set up the sewing machine again. But I'd have to pack away a lot of other art supplies to make a spot for it.

What message, if any, do you want to convey with your art/craft?

I don't think I'm trying to send a certain message. If I could cause world peace and eliminate hunger with my jewelry and art, that would be wonderful, but I'm really just trying to create something beautiful or intriguing or thought-provoking or just pleasing...I think that's a good goal...to just please someone, even if it is mostly myself, by the process of painting or turning what I've envisioned into reality. I also like the idea of another person looking at my work and relating to it in his or her own way and attaching his own meaning and connections to the piece. This is why I always have a hard time writing artist statements for exhibits; I hate the idea of having to explain a piece of art.

What advice do you have for other artists/crafters?

"Let the beauty we love be what we do." -Rumi Enjoy what you are doing and don't give up.Connect with other artists and craftsmen. A local as well as an online artist community to share your ideas and work and concerns with is a wonderful thing. They will understand and support you.

HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A MERFAERIE??

MERFAERIE

This "Merfaerie" is my latest design. I've been wanting to create a fantasy creature who not only is a mermaid, who can flit through the magical ocean kingdoms and seas, but also one that can soar above the earth and visit other magical kingdoms as well. She is the first of my colorful Merfaeries!

I hope to be creating more of these "Merfaeries" in different sizes, as time allows. She is the largest ,and measures approximately 15" tall, with a fin span of 10" wide. Other sizes I am considering are 6.5", and 10".

Her upper body and face are 100% silk tussah fabric. Tussah silk comes from wild moths, whose main diet is oak leaves. I individually hand-drew, needle-sculpted, and hand-painted her face.

Let's welcome Nina, whose shop on Etsy is called Nina's Window. What a exquisite painting! I happened across Nina's work and was so entranced by the colors and designs, that I had to write her and ask her if she would be a "featured artist" on my blog. Happily, Nina agreed!

What led you to start creating your art/craft?

I discovered my artistic ability after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis about 9 years ago. To say that my life would change drastically would be an understatement. Before my diagnosis, I was an extremely active person. I played organized softball, rode mountain bikes, went camping, enjoyed hiking, water skiing, and snow skiing. My husband and I did a lot of this together along with our three children.

One day out on a walk with the family, I began to stumble and I could not figure out why. We sat for a while and after resting I felt fine again. As time went by, I began to have more and more of these weird feelings in my left foot, numb feelings on my ribcage, blurred vision and feeling completely exhausted. It was a frustrating road to diagnosis because the doctors were unable to pin point the cause. It was not until five years later and several MRI’s that I was diagnosis with MS. I was told there is no cure. Doctor’s do not know how, or why, some people get it. Some doctors believe it is caused by genetics, cold weather, and certain vaccines. It is a progressive decease.

“Progressive” was the operative word for me. I am a realist. I had a pretty good idea of what my future was going to look like as far as my physical activity level and mobility was concerned.

I understood it was not a pretty picture. But it is what it is; I needed to put into perspective what I planned to do with what I had. I’m not only a realist, I am also a fighter. I began to pray diligently. I asked God to give me a new passion and purpose in life. I knew that God had not given me, an outgoing and spirited personality to end up in a wheelchair just looking out a window. I knew he had a purpose and a plan. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us, “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Dwelling on that, I kept praying.

A very good friend and neighbor gave me some paints and a canvas for a Christmas gift. She said “I know you would be good at painting. You are so creative and outgoing!” I responded, “Thank you”. When she left, I put it all in the closet, "out of sight, out of mind". I had never painted a thing in my life. Truth be told, I had no desire to. Going to art shows or museums was boring in comparison to my previously active lifestyle. So, I kept praying and telling God that I needed Him to give me a new passion…by the way painting was not what I had in mind.

Meanwhile my disease was progressing. I was experiencing less and less mobility. Throughout this entire process, Mondays were coffee days in my neighborhood. This particular Monday I woke up with a different feeling in my heart. As we were all sitting around talking and laughing I announced that I was going home and I was going to paint. I remember going to the closet, pulling the paints and canvas out and wondering how on earth I was going to make something look like anything on this white canvas square staring at me. I was scared. This was not my thing… or so I thought. But I felt that God put this desire in my heart for some reason. I do believe that when God closes a door He opens a window. The door has closed for me physically but He has opened a beautiful window for me with my art. That is why I call my artistic ability “Nina’s Window”. I give God all the glory and the credit. He has been so faithful to me. I love painting. It is so inspiring and it has given me such a venue to express myself.

I love seeing the joy on my friend’s and family’s faces when they see my art. Watercolor is my favorite painting medium. I like the unpredictable qualities it has. Through art, I have met wonderful people and I have learned a lot about myself as an artist and as a person.

Is living with MS difficult? Yes. Do I have difficult days? Sometimes. Am I angry? Absolutely not. My husband and I have three children. Our daughter Erika is 24, married and has a baby boy. Our sons are Ryan, 21, and Jeremy, 19. I have to be honest and say that I don’t know what the future holds for them. Difficult times and challenges come to all of us. I want them to see how full life can be in spite of very difficult challenges. I want them to persevere, be tenacious and to be fighters. I want to inspire in them the belief that God is faithful and that He will never leave us or forsake us.

How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with?

I started with oils (which is what my friend gave me), but it took too long to dry. I switched to acrylics and really liked it. However, once I tried watercolor I was sold. I love how it can be so unpredictable. It is by far my favorite.

What aspect of creating your art/craft do you find the most enjoyable?

I love that there are no rules. I paint what I want, when I want and if someone likes it? Well that much better. Getting lost in color and creating is the best part.

If you had to choose a fruit OR a vegetable, to describe your art/craft, what would you choose, and why?

I would choose a red chili pepper. I love the color red. I think of my work as very colorful, passionate and spicy. Making a statement.

If you had to choose one other medium in which to display your “creativity”, what would that be, and why?

I would say "music". Specifically, the trumpet. I am a real tomboy. Piano, violin, flute, etc. they just weren't me. I love the sound of a trumpet.

What message, if any, do you want to convey with your art/craft?

Fun! How color lifts your spirit!

What advice do you have for other artists/crafters?

Paint, paint and paint. Don’t give up. The more you paint the better you get. Don’t let anyone discourage you. There is no such thing as a mistake. You learn something every time you paint. How can that be a mistake?

Before we get to hear what Audrey has to say about herself and her art, let's hear from Audrey's mom. Since Audrey is a minor, her mom handles all of her sales, etc. at Audrey's AUDDITIES shop.

Audrey just turned 16 in late July. She's a junior in a high school that has an excellent art program. She is taking all the art courses available to her in school--is excited about starting ceramics this semester when classes begin next week. She is planning to study art in college and pursue some form of art as a future career, possibly teaching or graphic design. Audrey has spent the majority of her life immersed in the art scene, travelling to craft shows and demonstrations with either me or her grandmother (just like I did growing up). Last fall she had her first booth selling in a juried art show and has won several school and community-based awards for both her artwork and fiction writing. THANKS, MOM!

Now let's hear in Audrey's own words what she thinks about art and her work.

What led you to start creating your art/craft?

I've always liked to draw, and it keeps me from being bored. I've also had many family influences who support my art, like my mom.

How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with

I try pretty much any art medium I can, and like them all to some extent. I usually use whatever supplies I can afford or that I get as gifts.

What aspect of creating your art/craft do you find the most enjoyable?

It's a way to create fantasy worlds of fairies and vampires. I like those things.

If you had to choose a fruit OR a vegetable, to describe your art/craft, what would you choose, and why?

I'd choose an apple because it's bright and colorful. It's hard not to like an apple and my work kind of has that effect on people (or at least I hope it does!)

If you had to choose one other medium in which to display your “creativity”, what would that be, and why?

I really would like to work in 3-D, specifically puppets. Jim Henson has had a big impact on me and I would love to make things as memorable and lovable as his work.

What message, if any, do you want to convey with your art/craft?

Just that I'm having fun doing something I love.

What advice do you have for other artists/crafters?

If you love to do something, keep at it and don't give up.
