(click on link to learn more)
by Leanna TenEycke

I'm delighted to feature Leanna TenEycke and her Etsy shop - BY THE OAK ART here on my DZFANTASY blog.  Being a fantasy artist myself, it is always fun to see and learn about other fantasy artists and their creations.

Leanna not only creates fantastic drawings, but also beautiful jewelry..art pendants, charms, bookmarks and more!  I've tried to incorporate quite a few of her creations in this feature, but be sure to visit her BY THE OAK ART shop on Etsy to see her full line of creations, and to visit her other links listed below. To go directly to any item that is shown in this feature, just click the description link below the photo.

Ophelia Art Pendant and Earring set

 by Leanna TenEycke

1. What led you to start creating your art/craft?

I have always been in love with the fantasy genre and had a strong interest in drawing, and when I was a young girl decided I wanted to be an illustrator or artist in some form. I was very fortunate to have my family give me a lot of support, encouragement, and send me to art classes. I tried out many painting mediums including both traditional and digital, sculpture and doll making, sewing, and jewelry making but my main focus has been on digital painting. It was in April that I decided to try combining my artwork with jewelry to make wearable art.

Angel Egg Wings Bronze Fantasy Necklace

2. How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with?

Digital is my favourite medium because I can freely create and experiment without being conscious of how much material I am using. I always have complete control and freedom of my canvas, and I don't see it as a crutch or feel shame in using that freedom.

 by Leanna TenEycke

3. What aspect of creating your art, do you find the most fascinating?

When I have a particularly fun project to work on, or an idea that I really need to bring to life, it is work but sometimes it doesn't feel like it. I can spend hours assembling jewelry pieces or working on a new painting and the time flies by. Though this is definitely not always the case! Sometimes it can be very frustrating, but always worth it in the end because everything is a learning experience.

4. If you had to choose a fruit OR a vegetable, to describe your art, what would you choose, and why?

I would like to say tomato, because beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, but I believe the cherry best represents my work. I love to use reds, and cherries are small but have very feminine flowering trees.

5. If you had to choose one other medium in which to display your “creativity”, what would that be, and why?

I would like to paint full sized in oil someday. There's just a different feeling standing in front of a large painting, and I find the medium very fun to work with.

6. What message, if any, do you want to convey with your art?

I try to tell a story, describe the culture and emotions of a character, or depict a dream-like environment to let the viewer's imagination wander.

7. What advice do you have for other artists?

Be proud when you create something you think is beautiful, be accepting of helpful criticism, treat your customers or clients kindly, and always strive to improve yourself.

Thanks, Leanna, for sharing your thoughts and wonderful fantasy creations with us.  It was great to get to know a bit more about you and what motivates you to create!  Best wishes for success!!

Enchanting Fabric Fairy House with Fiber Sculpted Fairy

Enchanting Fabric Fairy House
with Tiny Fiber Sculpted Laying Fairy
$105.00 (Free Shipping)

I just completed this fun, colorful fabric fairy house.  I designed the fairy house from a pattern designed by fiber/fantasy artist, Julie McCullough.  I modified the pattern to create this 12" tall house, where the original pattern is for a 22" fairy house.  I added one of my fabric sculpted butterflies and Swarovski crystals as accents.  The tiny little fiber sculpted fairy is my own original design. This creation (fairy house and fairy) will be soon available at the BLUE HERON GALLERY in Port Washington, WI where I am currently showing my work, or you may contact me personally at dzfairies@msn.com

She measures approximately 2.5" long from her bent up legs to her elbows, and is about 2" high from her elbows to the top of her head.

I will be creating several more of these fabric fairy houses and the little fairies to go with them.  If anyone is interested in "special ordering" a set, please feel free to contact me for further information.

The fairies can also be created as sitting fairies, such as the tiny fairy shown below.

The sitting fairy measures about 3" tall from her "seat" to the top of her head, and fits nicely sitting in the door of the house.  I've also styled the house so that it could be hung as a mobile, if you didn't want it sitting on a table or shelf.

Teeny Fiber Sculpted Fairy and her Fairy House

This tiny fairy measures only 2.75" high and is the smallest of my sitting style fairies.  If anyone is interested in "special ordering" a tiny fairy of this size, please feel free to contact me at dzfairies@msn.com. The fairy house is a pattern from Julie McCullough. The fairy house shown in the photo above was given to me by a friend, and I added the handmade flowers and fabric butterfly.  I just received the pattern, and will be creating several of these quilted fairy houses along with tiny little fairies to coordinate with the fabrics of the house.

This size fairy also looks cute sitting on a hand-carved mushroom designed from a root.

Here she is sitting in the palm of my hand.  A fairy this size sells for $42.00.

These wee fairies would make a sweet addition to any fairy collection. I will also be creating them laying down.  I would be happy to send fabric and hair samples in your choice of colors, etc. either via mail or email.

Blue Heron Artisan Gallery - Port Washington, WI

Blue Heron Artisan Gallery
102 E Pier Street
Port Washington, WI

Above is a photo of the Blue Heron Artisan Gallery which recently opened in the charming city of Port Washington, WI.  The gallery is housed in the 1929 historical old fire engine house, which is on the National Register of historic places.

I was recently contacted by the owner/operator of the gallery, Bette Langford, to see if I was interested in putting my fiber fantasy art in the gallery.  I will now be offering my one-of-a-kind, original designed fiber fantasy figures and jewelry for sale at the gallery. This is a great alternative to doing art shows! Below are photos of my creations in the glass case where they will be on display for sale. What I have currently available at the gallery (as of 7/29/12) is what is pictured in each of these 4 photos.  I will be periodically changing the selections in the form of new fairies, mermaids, and fiber fantasy jewelry....fairy face pins, hand knit necklaces, butterfly pins, hand knit beaded earrings and more.  If you live in the area, be sure to stop by for a visit.  There is a lot of great art to look at and buy!

Any artists who are interested in having their work displayed in the gallery, should feel free to contact Betty Langford for further information. As of this past Sunday, July 29th, Bette said she has 3 glass cases still available such as the one pictured below, and approximately 30 walls spaces available. The rental fees are very reasonable.

Below are photos showing several of the artists already displaying their work in the gallery. Bette is also an artist and creates one-of-a-kind driftwood sculptures as shown in the photos below.

FEATURED ETSY SHOP - DreamPaperCut

In love Zebras Handmade Original Papercut First Anniversary Paper Gift: Hand-Cut Paper Art Silhouette

I was recently contacted by two very talented artists, Dmytro and Iuliia who live in the Ukraine.  They wanted to know if I still featured Etsy shops here on my DZFANTASY blog.  I am so happy they contacted me as their work is quite exquisite and I love having the opportunity to have everyone learn a bit more about these two artists and their delightful work!  Throughout the feature you will see photos of their paper cut art, and links to their work will be at the bottom of the feature.  Enjoy learning about these artists and be sure to visit their links to see more of their work!

Higher than Sky Handmade Original Papercut Gift: Hand-Cut Paper Art Silhouette

What led you to start creating your art/craft?

Our names are Dmytro and Iuliia and we live in Ukraine. We love creativity and handmade things, because looking at them you can feel the inner world of the person who made them. So this encouraged us to share our handmade works with other people.

Our story begins from the childhood, when being children we visited creative classes such as painting, drawing and paper craft. Growing up and studying at university we didn't pay proper attention to creativity, but it always lived in our hearts.

How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with?

Once, we created a greeting card with hand-cut elements for our friend’s birthday. It was the first realized step as to how much creativity occupies an important place in our lives. After that, we took an interest in paper cutting art and started creating paper cut silhouettes.

Couple In Love Holding Heart Handmade Original First Anniversary Paper Cut Gift: Hand-Cut Paper Art Silhouette

What aspect of creating your art, do you find the most fascinating?

Paper cutting is a very amazing process. At the beginning you just see a piece of paper and after spending several hours/days to cut, paper becomes a beautiful art work. Silhouettes for us are not just a sheet of paper. We put in our works a piece of love, care, kindness, happiness and truly believe that people can feel the same emotions looking at our paper cuts.

In love Elephants Handmade Original Papercut First Anniversary Paper Gift: Hand-Cut Paper Art Silhouette

If you had to choose a fruit OR a vegetable, to describe your art/craft, what would you choose, and why?

All fruits and vegetables are tasty, healthy and unique and we would like our art to be every fruit or vegetable that people like and need.

If you had to choose one other medium in which to display your “creativity”, what would that be, and why?

We are now trying painting, so we think it could be another medium to display our creativity. Painting is one of the greatest ways to express your soul and inner world with other people in different colors and styles.

What message, if any, do you want to convey with your art/craft?

We want to say through our art that world is beautiful, amazing and wonderful. Every second you can feel it perfection. There are main eternal values in the world like nature, love, help, kindness, care that everyone should spread, share and protect to live in harmony with yourself, other people and the whole world.

What advice do you have for other artists/crafters?

You should listen to your customers and use their advice and requests but do not lose your own way.
