Read Elizabeth's interview below to hear in her own words how she got started in her crafting adventure and what it means to her.

What led you to start creating your art/craft?

I started Paper crafting when I was 19 years old. My mom had invited me to come along with her to a scrapbooking party and I became hooked. I loved how there were so many different things you could do with paper, scissors, and glue. I just continued to work on my scrapbooking projects which naturally led me to card making, and here I am today selling my own paper crafts on Etsy.

How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with?

Well, there are many mediums that I wish I could work with like painting, but I just never had the artistic ability to draw or create those kinds of images in my mind. For some reason, working with paper fuels my creativity and brings out the artistic side of me that I never knew existed.

What aspect of creating your art/craft do you find the most enjoyable?

I find that I enjoy paper piecing the best. I like to take different shapes of paper and form them into various objects. This is probably the most fun for me. The industry has come a long way as far as die cutting machines and paper punches since I first started paper piecing, so now it is so much easier to create almost anything I want.

If you had to choose a fruit OR a vegetable, to describe your art/craft, what would you choose, and why?

I think I would choose a strawberry because they are just all around good. They are sweet and juicy and nice to look at. I like to think that my pieces are cute and sweet like a strawberry.

Easter Bits scrapbook embellishments

If you had to choose one other medium in which to display your “creativity”, what would that be, and why?

I would love to be a knitter. I see so many cute shops who specialize in knitted baby items and just all around cute things and I love it so much! Those knitters are very talented. I hope to someday take a knitting class. I think that would be fun.

What message, if any, do you want to convey with your art/craft?

I want my paper crafts to bring people a little bit of joy in a crazy world. I want my cards and gift tags to be something that would bring a smile to the recipient's face. Even if it is just a small little pleasure in this world.

What advice do you have for other artists/crafters?

My advice would be to just do what you love and continue at it. It is very rewarding to make sales on Etsy and to get recognized, but all of that really doesn't matter. At the end of the day, I just love what I am doing and receive so much joy from making my little crafts. If you continue to work at your craft and perfect it to the best of your ability, then that is what helps to fill up your soul. I love my job so much. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

THANKS, Elizabeth, for sharing your thoughts and delightful paper creations with all of us.

FEATURED ETSY SHOP - OWLBOT

Sunset Bird Note Cards and Envelopes (5)

WELCOME, JEN and one of her Etsy shops, OWLBOT, where she sells her original designed, handmade paper goods....note cards, tags, envelopes and also supplies. Jen also would be more than happy to work with you on a "custom order", so if you have a design in mind, be sure to get in touch with her.

Jen, also has another shop on Etsy which she calls OWLBOT AGAIN, where she sells "vintage" items, which I will be featuring out here at a later date.

What led you to start creating your art/craft?

I have always drawn little doodles and drawings of simple things – animals, people, nature, etc. and enjoyed making cards out of my drawings for other people. One day I came across a website that was selling Gocco printers and watched a tutorial and just fell in love with the idea. I quickly bought a Gocco machine and soon after decided to open my own business and sell what I made.

How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with?

I saw the tutorial for a Gocco and fell in love with the handmade quality it produced.

What aspect of creating your art/craft do you find the most enjoyable?

The final stage when I can take a step back and see the finished product is my favorite. There are so many steps before that happens, so it’s so rewarding to see it all put together.

If you had to choose a fruit OR a vegetable, to describe your art/craft, what would you choose, and why?

A bell pepper because they come in a variety of colors but in the same style, and I like to think I have a nice variety in my artwork while maintaining a sense of style.

If you had to choose one other medium in which to display your “creativity”, what would that be, and why?

I would really like to carve handmade stamps. I think it would be a lot of fun and the perfect medium for my simplistic art.

What message, if any, do you want to convey with your art/craft?

Keep it simple and have fun. Don’t take life too seriously or make it overly complicated. Life is short!

What advice do you have for other artists/crafters?

If you love doing it, do it regardless of what anyone else says. I hear a lot of crafters who take everything they hear about their work to heart (which is hard not to do) but really, variety is what makes life exciting. If everyone liked the same things, nobody would be creative!

Great advice, Jen! Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts and creativity with everyone.

FEATURED ETSY SHOP - CRAFTS BY CANDICE

Hand Carved Cupcake Rubber Stamp

WELCOME, Candice and her Etsy shop - "CRAFTS BY CANDICE". If you are looking for delightful, original designed cards, tags or rubber stamps, be sure to take a peek in Candice's shop, where you will find cards and tags, handmade embellishments, rubber stamps and more. Candice states that she loves to do custom orders, so if you want to tell her about your ideas, she'd be more than happy to work with you.

What led you to start creating your art/craft?

I was in grad school and wanted to do something to relax at the end of the day. I've always done crafts my whole life, but I started making cards only in the last 3 years. I also recently started making rubber stamps. I started this because many stamp companies are strict about letting artists use their stamps on crafts to sell. I wanted to make my own, and then decided to sell them without restriction to others.

How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with?

Cards happened because I was really into scrapbooking. One day I just decided to make a scrapbook style card and was hooked ever since. Rubber stamps, because of the reason above.

What aspect of creating your art/craft do you find the most enjoyable?

Coming up with new ideas and hearing that people like my products.

If you had to choose a fruit OR a vegetable, to describe your art/craft, what would you choose, and why?

Hmmm, hard question! I'd say a strawberry! Bright, cute, sweet and fun!

If you had to choose one other medium in which to display your “creativity”, what would that be, and why?

Not sure, sorry!

What message, if any, do you want to convey with your art/craft?

That unique, handmade items are made with love and attention to detail and add personality to your life!

What advice do you have for other artists/crafters?

Keep improving your craft and don't let selling stress you out. If you get stressed, take a break! Always work to make your pictures, products, designs, etc better.

Thanks, Candice for taking the time to share your creativity and thoughts with everyone. Candice also mentioned she is a professional muscian, and you can find out more about her at her MYSPACE link below.
