FEATURED ETSY SHOP - MARY HANKS

RABBIT, RABBIT PILLOW
by MARY HANKS

I've always loved bunnies, real ones, and any others! This delightful Rabbit pillow by MARY HANKS on Etsy, gives one a very cozy feeling just looking at it. I'm happy to have Mary here on DZFANTASY as a featured artist, and hope you enjoy learning a bit more about Mary and her creativity. When you pay a visit to MARY HANKS, you will find a wide range of items to choose from...children's boutique, paintings, bibs and blankets, purses and totes, all created by Mary.

What led you to start creating your art/craft?

As long as I can remember I've always enjoyed making things. When I was in school, making a collage trumped writing a book report any day! Making & giving gifts that are homemade, cooking, refurnishing furniture, it's just always been a way of life.

How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with?

Well my medium changes because I CAN'T decide what to work with! My shop has more sewn/fabric things, but I'm just as happy with painting. I have done some sculpture, although none are currently for sale. Guess it's time to revisit that craft.

What aspect of creating your art/craft do you find the most enjoyable?

Imagining the recipient enjoying whatever item they've purchased from my shop.

If you had to choose one other medium in which to display your “creativity”, what would that be, and why?

I'm an avid gardener and cook, enjoying both of those mediums here at home. Unfortunately they don't transfer that well to my Etsy business, or at least I haven't figured out how to practically do that!

What message, if any, do you want to convey with your art/craft?

My Heart's Desire...to use whatever talent that God has given to me to bring glory to Him,to create items of joy, fun, love & grace that will bless those who purchase or give something from me.

What advice do you have for other artists/crafters?

Learning how to photograph and best display is so important. I'm still working on that aspect of this business.

Thanks, Mary, for sharing your thoughts and creativity with all of us. I'm sure you won't run out of ideas of what to do with your talents. Be sure to visit MARY HANKS to see all the lovely items Mary has to offer.

FEATURED ETSY SHOP - WIREFOX - Photography and wild jewelry

Three Droplets 16 by 20 Fine Art Photography Print
by Kacey
Taken after a morning rainstorm, this (insert flower name) is in full bloom in my Grandmother’s walled garden in Costa Rica.

Let's welcome, Kacey and her Etsy shop WIREFOX. Kacey not only has fine art photography in her WIREFOX shop, but also unique bottle cap pendants, other fun jewelry, post cards, and more. Be sure to pay WIREFOX a visit.

Fly away home

This pendant in made from polymer clay, beads, and an unpcycled izze twist off bottlecap. The little lady bug sits on a yellow background. Her spots are made from glass beads. Fits most thin chains.

What led you to start creating your art/craft?

Leg surgery. I was off my feet for an entire summer, an eternity in kid time.

How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with?

I didn't, polymer clay grew out of experiments with other, less satisfactory clay types, and photography was the only way I could capture what I want to capture

What aspect of creating your art/craft do you find the most enjoyable?

The moment when I first see a positive reaction from a buyer, or a friend, or a gallery goer.

If you had to choose a fruit OR a vegetable to describe your art/craft, what would you choose, and why?

Kiwi. Dark, strange and unapproachable in some ways, bizarrely textured, but vibrant and sweet all around...wait, was this about me, or my art? Still kiwi either way.

If you had to choose one other medium in which to display your creativity, what would that be and why?

Film. Writing. But mostly film. I've been fascinated with cinema since I was a little girl, and I am one of those rare people who want to go back to New York, not to act, but to become involved in technical theater and film-making.

What message, if any, do you want to convey with your art/craft?

You tell me...

What advice do you have for other artists/crafters?

Do what you love, if you are here for any other reason, now is the chance to get out.

Kacey, thanks for being a featured artist out here on DZFANTASY, and for sharing your creativity with everyone.

FEATURED ETSY SHOP- LILYJA

ENCHANTED
by
LILY

WELCOME, Lily and her ETSY shop LILYJA. Lily has some very unique and gorgeous creations in her shop...including a variety of necklaces, earrings, bracelets and more. Be sure to pay LILYJA a visit. First, lets learn a bit about Lily.

What led you to start creating your art/craft?

During my teens, I really loved to wear jewelry and I remember one time buying a pair of earrings and knowing deep inside that one day I'd make jewelry myself.

How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with?

I've painted ever since I can remember, and I take photographs, and also make jewelry. I think it’s the need to feel the material with my hands that led me to put the emphasis on jewelry, plus the joy in doing something and seeing it brings happiness to someone else.

What aspect of creating your art/craft do you find the most enjoyable?

I love the moment an idea is showing itself in my mind's eye, I love that exciting moment… inspiration I think its called.

If you had to choose a fruit OR a vegetable, to describe your art/craft, what would you choose, and why?

I would choose Artichoke! I don't know why, but it’s the first association that came to me.

If you had to choose one other medium in which to display your “creativity”, what would that be, and why?

Aside from photography, I think it would be sculpturing, because of the feel of the material.

What message, if any, do you want to convey with your art/craft?

I hope the world will forgive me for not thinking about it. I don't think about my art, I just bring it out.

What advice do you have for other artists/crafters?

I think the best advice is the one I got – DO ! Just keep on doing, and follow your heart. The rest will follow.

Lily, I loved having you here on DZFANTASY as a featured artist. Your work is truly beautiful. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts and creativity with everyone.

FUZZB.COM...Looking for a great place to shop, sell, network and more?

What's the buzz on FUZZB.COM? FUZZY BLUE SLIPPERS or FUZZB is a delightful, fairly new (about 1 year old) site where you can SHOP, SELL, NETWORK and more! I heard about it through my membership on The Fairy Society Network, but just last week decided to open another DZFANTASY shop there.

Below is a sample of one of their styles of a shop widget (like Etsy's mini), which you can create, to add to your web site, blog, facebook, etc. They have 3 different styles and sizes you can select from. I have another style in my left hand column of this blog.

Selling options include: Opening a shop for $25.00/year - lifetime (limited time only), a $5.00 a month store (regular will be $15.95/mo) - lifetime (limited time only), and a FREE store, where you can list 10 items. (limited time only). There is also a SWAP feature, when setting up your items.

Since there are no fees other than the yearly shop fee of $25.o0, if you sign up in the first 10,000 shops, I am considering offering a savings to customers who buy at my FUZZB - DZFANTASY shop. More info will be coming soon.

The FUZZB site is not restricted to only hand-made items.

I decided to jump right in and do the $25.00 a year store for life. FUZZB offers a lot of options to sellers such as selling items auction style, or BUY IT NOW (no bids allowed), your own bulletins, blog posts, videos, store coupons, store events, uploading your photos, and more.

From what I've discoved so far, it will take a while to learn the "in and outs" of sellling on FUZZB and all their offered features. However, it looks like a great site, so as I get more familiar with it, I will add additional posts out here on their many features.

One feature that stood out with me right away is the many "categories", and market places that one can list their work in.

If you'd like to learn more and see what they offer compared to other sites, click on the link below:

SELLING AT FUZZB.COM

There are also a lot of great shops out there....so shoppers take a look. Click on link below to arrive at:

FEATURED ETSY SHOP - FUNKY BLINK - Colorful Jewelry

Treasure From a Box - Rhinestone Vintage-New Unique Necklace

Below you will read a portion of the description for the above necklace, as stated in the artist's shop. I thought is was rather interesting. To find out more about this gorgeous necklace, be sure to visit FUNKY BLINK.

"Some time ago I visited a Flea Market ( I just love those )..Sometimes you can find a 'suprise' offer. That means - there is some closed box or chest that you buy & you have no idea what's inside.... I bought a Treasure Box - it was love at first sight... The lock was jammed and the box was heavy.. When I opened it.. wrapped in some velvet cloth there was ... a yellow and blue Rhinestone Brooch! Yes! I went with it to a specialist and he priced it really high. I found a treasure!"

WELCOME, Catherine a.k.a. Blinky, and her Etsy shop, FUNKY BLINK, and hear what she has to tell has about herself and her colorful jewelry designs.

What led you to start creating your art/craft?

I'm a volcano of creativity and volcanos tend to erupt.... so do I. I have to create all the time to stay calm. I do different kinds of art & craft, one is never enough and I love this diversity.

How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with?

It might sound strange, but it started as an obsession....I CANNOT WEAR EARRINGS.. I mean - I can, but cannot have my ears pierced, and exctly that made me think about earrings all the time. Now I wear clip ons, and I would love to introduce them to my shop, but cannot find one nice enough to add them to my creations. I fell in love in all kinds of jewelry... so I create and cannot stop anymore!

What aspect of creating your art/craft do you find the most enjoyable?

I really like fresh ideas.. making a new design... But the most enjoyable thing is when someone is just crazy about one of your creations.

If you had to choose a fruit OR a vegetable, to describe your art/craft, what would you choose, and why?

I would definitely say - lots of juicy colorful fruits and whipped cream on the top! A yummy Dessert!

If you had to choose one other medium in which to display your “creativity”, what would that be, and why?

Can I choose more? Wood sculpture, painting, graphic design, puppet making, Dresses for dolls.

What message, if any, do you want to convey with your art/craft?

I'm introducing more colour to this world and trying to feel like a professional fashion designer. Adding strong color to even black outfit is definitely cool.

What advice do you have for other artists/crafters?

There is always more you can learn, and in fact, you should never be fully satisfied. Search all the time for better designs! Everything should be well made.

Thanks, Blinky, for taking the time to do this interview, and sharing your wonderful, funky jewelry. Hope you find more "treasures". Be sure to visit FUNKY BLINK, so see what other items it has to offer.

FEATURED ETSY SHOP - SCAMPERING SCOTTIES COLLARS - The ones all dogs are barking about!

Calling all dog lovers....! Come dress up your special four-legged friends with a delightful hand-crafted collar from SCAMPERING SCOTTIES on Etsy! Sarah, the owner of SCAMPERING SCOTTIES will tell us below how she got started designing and creating her fun, colorful dog collars.

What led you to start creating your art/craft?

I am proudly owned by two lively Scottish terriers, Brodie and Caolin. When they were younger I tried to dress them in clothes, but they were unhappy with anything that I picked. So instead, I purchased collar upon collar to compensate for their unwillingness to comply with clothes. As the collars kept piling up and the money kept going to the collars, I realized that I might as well make my own. After making B&C their own and sharing my designs with my family and friends, I decided to start to sell them to others. I really enjoy sewing and find it very therapeutic, especially after a long day of work.

How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with?

I wanted my collars to be durable and flexible but at the same type stylish and AFFORDABLE! A lot of collars that I purchased for my dogs were stiff and scratchy, I wanted the opposite. I researched ribbon, thread, and nylon until I found materials that I was happy with.

What aspect of creating your art/craft do you find the most enjoyable?

The fact that I get to do something for me. This is my way to escape my "normal" life and to do something that I like to do. I work a full time job and also a part time job, so to also be able to make collars in the little time I have free really brings me joy. I also enjoy the fact that dogs benefit from my product. When they are wearing one of my collars and get complimented by someone, my dogs know they look good and become more confident in themselves (sounds corny but it is so true).

If you had to choose a fruit OR a vegetable, to describe your art/craft, what would you choose, and why?

Carrots-- only because I have no idea and I know that this veggie is both of my dogs favorite snack!

If you had to choose one other medium in which to display your “creativity”, what would that be, and why?

Next I want to tackle dog beds.

What message, if any, do you want to convey with your art/craft?

The message I most want to convey is that dogs need to be stylish too and to do this you don't have to buy them clothes. People may not realize this, but dogs know when they look good and when people are talking about them. My goal is to make the dogs feel good by providing their humans the opportunity to buy them gorgeous collars at half the price you would pay at an upscale pet boutique. These are the collars that all dogs are barking about in the dog parks!

What advice do you have for other artists/crafters?

Promote your shop as much as possible. I am a rather shy person, but realized that in order to run a shop effectively I have to get myself out there. I have started a blog, wrote to everyone I possibly knew to tell them about my shop, and EVEN started twittering! I am definitely out of my comfort zone, but am slowly getting over it.

Thanks, Sarah, for a delightful feature! Be sure to visit SCAMPERING SCOTTIES, and see all the colorful collars that your favorite pet could be wearing. Doesn't your little guy/gal deserve to sport a designer collar?

FEATURED ETSY SHOP - HANNAH'S HANDS

JUMP RING MEDALLION
by
HANNAH'S HANDS
This Handmade Chain maille medallion is made out of sterling silver jump rings. It is fun and fashionable. The look speaks for itself. Goes with anything you wear. Pendant attached to rubber tubing it is durable and perfect for the on the go lifestyle.

The above striking medallion by Tanya of HANNAH'S HANDS on Etsy is just one of the beautiful pieces of jewelry you will find when you pay a visit to HANNAH'S HANDS. Tanya's shop has a wide selection of bracelets, necklaces and earrings, so be sure to stop by.

What led you to start creating your art/craft?

Jewelry making just kind of fell into my lap. A dear friend was opening a bead shop and asked if I would work for her. I didn't know anything about beads or jewelry making but she assured me I would learn. The first thing I learned was how to make a bracelet and I was hooked. I couldn't wait to make more and more and learn more. So Beading kind of found me instead of the other way around.

How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with?

The shop I worked for got me started and specialized in Swarovski crystals and pearls and had a good gemstone collection, so I learned a lot about these materials and saw them everyday so it was natural to gravitate to them when I started my craft.

What aspect of creating your art/craft do you find the most enjoyable?

Well I think the final product is my favorite part. It feels like such an accomplishment to see my vision come to fruition, but I also really enjoy piecing it together, envisioning it in my mind and then matching all the pieces and putting it all together.

If you had to choose a fruit OR a vegetable, to describe your art/craft, what would you choose, and why?

Hmmm that's a tough one. A strawberry perhaps. Vibrant color, great for a romantic dinner or just at a picnic, and everyone likes strawberries.

If you had to choose one other medium in which to display your “creativity”, what would that be, and why?

I would love to make baby blankets and learn how to crochet and sew.

What message, if any, do you want to convey with your art/craft?

You don't have to break the bank to have nice jewelry. It's Ok to look good for less.

What advice do you have for other artists/crafters?

Keep furthering yourself. Learn new techniques and designs, and don't be afraid to venture outside of your comfort zone.

Thanks, Tanya for taking the time to share your thoughts and lovely jewelry with everyone! Be sure to visit Hannah's Hands...you just might find a piece of jewelry you can't do without!

FEATURED ETSY JEWELRY ARTIST - COLE DESIGNS

WELCOME, Nicole, and her Etsy shop COLE DESIGNS. When you pay a visit to Nicole's shop, you will find some very exquisite pieces of jewelry....pendants, necklaces, earrings. As I was looking through Nicole's shop, the necklace below caught my eye. I love the colors and texture! Be sure to pay COLE DESIGNS a visit to see for yourself what this talented jewelry artist has to offer.

What led you to start creating your art/craft?

I have been a creative person since I could remember. I started with painting, and as I got older my creativity has kind of taken a life of its own. I still love painting, but I have added sewing and of course jewelry making to my list of things that make me truly happy.

How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with?

When it comes to jewelry, beautiful natural stones that catch my eye are what I am all about. I absolutely love working with drusies, and hand cut faceted stones. These stones are so beautiful in nature; I find them to be the most interesting in a semi natural form.

What aspect of creating your art/craft do you find the most enjoyable?

To me it is amazing to take a single, semi precious stone and combine with elements that when finished create a piece of wearable art that demands attention. I love having a pile of items that I have no plan for, I usually throw them all in a pile and the design comes to me on how they will be arranged.

If you had to choose a fruit OR a vegetable, to describe your art/craft, what would you choose, and why?

The first thing that comes to mind I guess would be an Artichoke, why you ask? Well, an artichoke is a vegetable that not everyone has the taste for, but the people that do like them, absolutely love them! Besides if you were to connect a beautiful copper chain to an artichoke, I could make a necklace out of that.

If you had to choose one other medium in which to display your “creativity”, what would that be, and why?

Other than jewelry, my favorite way to express myself is oil painting. You are able to start with a blank white canvas, and by the time you finish you can have an entire story on the canvas in front of you.

What message, if any, do you want to convey with your art/craft?

That natural and unique combined are the most beautiful expression there is.

What advice do you have for other artists/crafters?

If you love doing it then do it. "Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved." William Jennings Bryan

Nicole, it was a pleasure to have you and your creative jewelry out here on DZFANTASY as a featured artist. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts and creativity!

You can find out more about Nicole and her work by clicking on the links below.

Sweet, Enchanting Mermaid....my latest addition!

Meet my newest little mermaid. She is only 6.5" tall, but is filled with a lot of magic and sparkle! Since I sold my last two little mermaids this size, I've been busy creating several more, so more will be arriving in the next week or two.

Also, from what my current "poll" is saying....it looks like my next DZFANTASY giveaway will be a tiny mermaid! There is still time to vote for what you'd like to see as my next "giveaway" creation. The poll is in the top, upper right column, so be sure to leave your vote. This helps me decide what people's favorite choice would be.

If you'd like to learn more about the little green mermaid above, just click on either of her photos.
